I came across this inspiring video a little while ago and it reminded me of a shoe-making workshop I took part in at Uni.

Back in 2009, Marloes ten Bhömer came to Berlin to teach us to think about shoes in a way we haven’t done before.

To come up with some sort of mobility attachment was challenging and a very interesting process.
I really enjoyed working with her and I admire her groundbreakingly different approach towards shoe design and the striking visual impact of her work.

Here’s what I did at the end of the week:

Apolda is a small town in Germany with a lively community of companies devoted to knitwear. The city council runs a knitting and textile workshop every year, where students from various universities are invited to cooperate with local factories to develop the knits they designed on an industrial level.

It’s been a great week, we’ve learned a lot and had a fantastic show on our last night.

I stumbled across David Kamp’s Speliothem Lamp the other day. I really like the concept of his work. This combination of a candle and lamp lets us perceive waste as something rather beautiful and recyclable. The wax is melted by halogen bulbs and then drops down to create a sculpture and can then be crumbled and used to refill the container.

Mouths are flapping all over town…

it’s Fashion Week. Once again. In Berlin.  From Wednesday to Friday. This week.

Visitors will expect a vast variety of shows, showrooms, trade fairs, awards and parties everywhere in the city, and I dare say they won’t be disappointed.

TrenntMagazine from Berlin had a feature story about Green Design in autumn 2011.

They asked 7 experts in Berlin to present what’s good design to them…. and called it a crash course in the matter of eco-design.

One of them was my tutor Heike Selmer. She chose my first zero-waste project as her example of good design and was photographed with some of my garments.
